You have decided to take a photo safari in Africa, and you have chosen Tanzania as your destination of choice. Tanzania offers gorgeous vistas across the Serengeti that creates a perfect backdrop for wildlife photography, plus its national parks and volcano features make it a favorite spot for photo safaris.

How can you make the most of your Tanzania photo safari? If you follow a few tips, you are sure to come back with great memories as well as pictures.

Plan Ahead

While it's impossible to really plan on what animals you will see while on your photo safari, you can plan on where you would like to go and what kinds of pictures you would like to take. For example, you can visit the Lake Manyara National Park for a photo safari in which is filled with desert landscapes as well as a forest and salt lake. Here, you can check out the flamingos who live by the lake and is one of the best areas in Tanzania for bird watching.

You could also see the Ngorongoro Conservation Area which is a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is named after the large caldera volcano in the area and with restrictions on human settlement here, it provides some fantastic views of the landscape and animals.

Bring a Long Lens

It might be a dream of yours to get the perfect wildlife shot, but since animals are not stationary and will move around, plus you are not able to get close to them, most of your shots will come from inside a vehicle. It's a good idea to bring a long lens to attach to your camera for those shots of a lion on a termite mound, or a cheetah hunting their prey.

You are able to bring the animal up close without putting yourself in any danger.

Use a Fast Shutter Speed

While most of the animals you will find on safari are used to vehicles around them and cameras clicking away - meaning they most likely will not run when you take their picture, it's a good idea to use a fast shutter speed just in case you find a skittish animal. Or perhaps they are hunting, and the action will move quickly.

Take an Early Morning or Early Evening Safari

While it is possible to take a safari at any time during the day, if you want the best opportunities for pictures and the best lighting, then take either an early morning/dawn or early evening/dusk safari. The animals tend to move around more during these times, especially the predators like lions or leopards and the light across the lands or waters is beautiful.
