6 Unrealistic Expectations Brides & Grooms Often Have Of Wedding Photographers

Wedding photographers are capable of capturing some of the most beautiful moments from any wedding; however, they are not miracle workers. Just like any other type of photographer, those capturing your nuptials are capable only of working with the inspiration they are given. Unfortunately, there are many brides and grooms who struggle with the reality of hiring a wedding photographer. Whether you are a bride, groom, or wedding photographer, understanding which demands and expectations are realistic and which are not is essential.

1. Recreating Pinterest-Worthy Photos

It is not uncommon today for wedding photographers to receive requests for copies of popular Pinterest poses. As beautiful as these photos may be, they are often nearly impossible to replicate. The time of day might not be right, the clothing might not be right, or perhaps the location just won't cooperate. Plus, the photographer often has his or her own inspiration to draw from. Just like any other artist, photographers often do not like to copy each other.

2.  Every Shoot Should Look Like It Was Shot In A Studio

Many of the photos you see on Pinterest are not from actual weddings; they were taken in a studio or with models. Everybody is styled exactly the way the photographer wants them to be. Additionally, the photographer has plenty of time to work with the models, as they are not about to be rushed away to the reception.

3. Possessing Raw Files of Every Photo Taken

A photographer only wants their best work out there. If brides and grooms request the Raw files, they may post work that is not of the quality that the photographer wants to showcase. This can cut down the word of mouth referrals and social media shares. Clients should rest assured that the photographer is sharing the images that are the most fantastic.

4. Weather and Lighting to Work with the Photography Session

If you want your wedding photos to look light, ensure that you schedule your ceremony earlier in the day. If you want a sunset backdrop for your ceremony, your wedding photos following it may be in the dark. Brides and grooms must know how to best schedule events throughout the day.

5. Everybody Will Look Like Retouched Celebrities

You can rely on your photographer to edit the photos just enough so that everybody looks fantastic in the photos; however, photographers are not likely to provide subjects with full makeovers. Lots of people request that photographers bleach their teeth, fill in facial hair, or even slim down legs, arms, and tummies. This just isn't realistic.

6. A Very Specific Shot List and No Candid Photos

Brides and grooms often have some requests for photos, which is fine. It is still important to leave plenty of space in the schedule for candid, emotional moments. It is an emotion-filled day, after all. It is a good idea to allow the photographer to explore their own inspiration.

Hiring a professional photographer to capture your big day is a great way to capture the special moments in your day. It is always wise to speak with the photographer to ensure that you have realistic expectations for your ceremony and reception.
